Carl Edwards shocked NASCAR fans when he recently announced his retirement from active driving. Edwards stated that he was going to retire to his Missouri “ranch”. Edwards owns a small farm in Missouri.I am sure that some recent driver deaths and the changing dynamics of the cars today had a lot to do with his decision. Edwards has small children. When NASCAR’s most popular driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., missed most of last season with a concussion, this had to influence his decision. Afterall, when you finish second in the final standings, you don’t expect a relatively young driver to retire.I am sure Carl Edwards will find another job in racing that does not require the danger of driving 200 mph around a high-banked track in a car not much bigger than the one you and I drive on the streets. Will NASCAR try to restrict the engine power soon? In recent years, I think one or more cars have left the track surface like they were an airplane taking off.
