first_imgBatesville, In. — The City of Batesville Parks Department is seeking volunteers who are interested in joining the community group known as “Friends of Brum Woods”.The group provides assistance to the Parks Department who oversees the eighty-acre park that contains five trails. With only two full-time employees who have vast job duties, the department relies on passionate volunteers for certain aspects of Brum Woods.“The main purpose of these volunteers is not the labor maintaining the trails, instead giving their input, concerns, and working together to continually improve our trail system,” said Parks Director Mike Baumer.Volunteer opportunities range from monitoring the trails for potential hazards and working with the Parks Department to improve the trail system for the increasing number of users.“Brum Woods was established more than two decades ago and it has been the awesome volunteers who have poured countless hours of time into making this a true gem for our city,” Baumer remarked. “We want to build on that work with some new folks who are just as interested in keeping Brum Woods enjoyable for years to come.”Learn more about how you can volunteer by contacting the Parks Department at (812) 212-0603 or (812) 934-4560. Or email Baumer at [email protected]“This volunteer opportunity will be a great help to the city and can be as much or as little time as you want to make it,” Baumer added.“The goal is to maintain, improve and continue to enjoy these trails as Lena Brum intended when she graciously donated the 80 acres to the city many years ago, and made possible by all the volunteers in the past,” Baumer said.last_img read more
