Rashford shines in stellar showing as Young struggles against Spurs

first_imgMARCUS RASHFORD put in a stellar showing as he scored twice to lead Manchester United to a 2-1 win over Tottenham at Old Trafford. The England star threatened over and over again in a blistering first-half, scoring the game’s opener in the sixth minute with a powerful right-footed shot – with a little help from Paulo Gazzaniga.2 Marcus Rashford was brilliant in Man Utd’s win over SpursCredit: GettyBut a moment of sheer genius from Dele Alli saw Spurs equalise shortly before half-time.Rashford deservedly grabbed a second goal early in the second-half after winning – and converting – a penalty after being trodden on by Moussa Sissoko. After a thrilling game at Old Trafford, here’s how SunSport’s Dave Fraser rated Man Utd’s stars against Spurs…DAVID DE GEA – 6A spectator in the early knockings as United took to the game to the Tottenham half, made a fine save to deny Serge Aurier, but the rebound was smashed home by Dele Alli after a gorgeous flick.Made a smart save from substitute Tanguy Ndombele late on – and another from Alli in stoppage time.AARON WAN-BISSAKA – 6Solid in defence, but his distribution after regaining possession is often lacking and can halt United’s counter-attacking threat.A crunching tackle to break up a Spurs counter-attack turned out to be a crucial final kick of the game.VICTOR LINDELOF – 6Had little to do with Spurs’ threat coming from out side, but there when called upon.HARRY MAGUIRE – 6Much like Lindelof, was a spectator for much of the match.ASHLEY YOUNG – 5Looked shaky at left-back, with Lucas Moura and Serge Aurier teaming-up to form a speedy, attacking partnership on his flank.Could have done better in the build-up to Dele’s goal, failing to throw his head at the ball before it reached his old international team-mate.The club captain’s days at Old Trafford are surely numbered with the emergence of Brandon Williams – and with Luke Shaw also on the books.Jose Mourinho explains why it’s easier for Man Utd to play against the better teams in the Premier League after Spurs lose 2-1 at Old Trafford2 Ashley Young struggled for large portions of the game against TottenhamCredit: ReutersACCA WITH LADBROKES Pick up a whole load of acca features to help you land the big oneSCOTT McTOMINAY – 6Back after missing three games with an ankle injury, failed to have much of an impact early on as United’s attackers took control of the game.Solid overall, as ever.FRED – 6Awful attempt on goal in the first-half, so off-target it was even saved from going for a throw-in, somewhat epitomised his time at United.Never shy to duck out of a heavy tackle though and made a couple of key contributions on the defensive end.DANIEL JAMES – 6Took a heavy knock early on after a lunge from Harry Winks which sent the Welshman clattering into Jose Mourinho.Always energetic down the right but perhaps not at his sparkling best. Had a strong effort saved by Gazzaniga in the second-half as he aimed to put the match out of Spurs’ reach.JESSE LINGARD – 6Looked better and some lovely footwork nearly led to a trademark, curled goal – only to see his shot just drift wide.Nice bit of link-up play in the second-half with James and Rashford and arguably a better option than Andreas Pereira in the No10 spot.Taken off with around five minutes to play after going down with cramp. A much more assured showing from the England man.MARCUS RASHFORD – 9Rifled home Man Utd’s opener. Gazzaniga should have saved it, but credit to Rashford for getting it in the corner with some real venom.Nearly had a second with a sensational free-kick minutes later that drifted millimetres wide, before rattling the bar shortly afterwards.Got goal No2 for the game from the spot early in the second-half after winning the penalty himself after a dangerous surge into the box.Quieter after that moment, but his work had already been done.Much more dangerous now he’s back playing on the left-wing…MASON GREENWOOD – 5Looked lively in only his second Premier League start, always in the right place as the sole centre-forward.Always appears confident in his own ability but was overall very quiet and utterly outshone by Rashford as the England star put in a stellar showing.ACCA WITH LADBROKES Pick up a whole load of acca features to help you land the big oneMORE MAN UTD STORIESLive Blogunited newsMan Utd news LIVE – Latest updates from Old TraffordMAN DOWNUtd and City face TWO-WEEK summer if they reach Euro finals before new Prem seasonDEPAY CHARTMan Utd flop Memphis used computer data and analytics to quit Old TraffordODS ON?Ighalo to leave Man Utd TOMORROW unless dramatic extension can be reachedPEA SHOOTERHernandez: Man Utd ‘still haunted’ by ‘mistake’ of Moyes replacing FergusonDEVIL’S ADVOCATEEx-Man Utd star Chadwick dreaded being picked for Keane’s team in trainingPicturedTRAINING DAYFernandes back in his Mini while Pogba arrives for training in yellow FerrariMARCSMANWatch Rashford floor Man Utd team-mates with ‘naughty’ bit of skill in trainingPicturedHOMER WINEngland and Dortmund star Sancho shows off new Simpsons and Sonic tattoosGossipBERN IT UPMan Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea on alert after Bernardeschi reveals Prem plansSUBSAndreas Pereira (for Mason Greenwood, 80 mins) – Failed to make much of an impact during his ten-minute cameo.Luke Shaw (for Jesse Lingard, 87 mins) – Little time to get into the game having been thrown on to rescue Lingard from his cramp.Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says the next two games give his team the chance to prove themselveslast_img read more
